Delivering the Next Generation of Color
Cypris Materials is developing a new generation of sustainable color that broadens the color gamut while simplifying manufacturing, application and formulation.
Why Now?
The paints, inks, and coatings industry has made significant strides to improve its environmental footprint. This has taken many forms from reducing the amount of volatile organic compounds, eliminating bisphenol A (BPA), and removing additives like phthalates.
The last remaining bastion to improve upon is how we introduce color to the world. Currently, color is produced through individual pigment and dye chemistries, each with their own unique toxicity profiles. Today's coating chemistries carry significant upstream and downstream effects on human health and the environment - including polychlorinated biphenyls, heavy metals, formulation difficulties, inability to recycle, health hazards, and un-ethical production.
Cypris takes environmental safety and sustainability to the next level.

What We Do
Cypris Materials, Inc. has harnessed the transformative power of structural color - a method of producing color that has evolved over millions of years. Cypris Materials' structural coating platform helps industry-leading companies and individuals redefine the capabilities of color. Our polymers, backed by an extensive patent portfolio, unlock exclusive colors and effects that can only be achieved through our paint. Cypris’ materials enable a new paradigm: the first safe and sustainable structural color palette, free of toxic pigments and dyes.

Who We Are
Cypris Materials, Inc. began in Berkeley, CA after co-founders Matt Ryan and Ryan Pearson were awarded Activate Fellowships to join the Cyclotron Road program at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. Prior to Cypris’ incorporation, co-founders Garret Miyake and Raymond Weitekamp helped mature the core technology originally invented in the Caltech lab of co-founder and Nobel Laureate Robert Grubbs.
